today derik and i moved the point of use hot water heater closer to the kitchen sink. this decreased the time to hot water from about 30 seconds to about 25 seconds. more importantly, the installation is now far neater than it was before.
unfortunately, i did not take a before picture but both the plumbing tubes and the electrical lines were an aesthetic disaster. now they look great. it was a bit of a chore as it is difficult to get insulated pex tubes to look presentable.
the ecosmart point of use hot water heater is now neatly installed

today the house might have passed the blower door test. this test determines the air leakage in the house. although the house has a very small leakage, it is more than passive house will allow. so i have been trying hard to find leaks and patch them. today the measured leakage was
339 cfm. the requirement is 345 cfm. i have my hopes up that the passive house institute of the united states will say this is a pass.
michael’s computer shows the leakage to be 339 cfm at 50 Pa
2015 06 29: today the energy usage and consumption are plotted in the figure, which was generated by sitesage energy monitors and the sitesage website.
the huge spikes in energy consumption are caused by the point of use hot water heaters. they use very high energy until hot water reaches them from the solar hot water heater. it was a high usage day because the washer and dryer were used for most of the evening. on the other hand the heat pump use was a bit below normal because it was relatively cool.

2015 06 20: the house is equipped with a system to monitor its electrical energy usage. all the circuits are monitored.
today jeremiah and i worked on finishing the installation. to this time, there were no monitors for the solar arrays or for the circuits from the garage’s breaker box. now they are installed.
2015 03 02: the house has been equipped with a whirlpool ventless heat pump dryer. it came onto the market very recently and operates with a significant increase in dryer efficiency from all previous models available in the united states. (europe has had ventless heat pump dryers for a while.)
the dryer was delivered on 31 january. i’ve used it several times. it works like a vented dryer. it seems to be a great product . . . much more efficient any previous dryers available in the
